Alchemist quote

"It's the simple things in life that are the most extraordinary."

This quote is from The Alchemist by Paulo Coehlo, and it is one that I agree with the most. I think that the simple things in life are the ones that matter most, and are the ones that are the greatest. One example I have is when I laugh with friends or family. The sheer joy and pleasure I feel when I am with loved ones, is much more important than say, shaking the president's hand (which I did!). I mean, when I met the President, the feeling was amazing, and even though some might say it was an extraordinary event, I would always consider the times with family to be more extraordinary.

Schindler's List

We needed to stop asking questions about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life--daily and hourly. ... Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual" (77)

I think that Izshtak Stern would have to agree. During the holocaust, the Jews had to deal with so many challenges and obstacles, all of which were completely inhumane. Even if he would disagree with this before the holocaust, I feel like the holocaust would change him, because you never knew what to expect.
